Ignacio is managing partner and founding partner of Altamar Infraestructuras and head of Altamar in Latin America. He joined Altamar Capital Partners in 2015 to start a new division to focus on investments in the infrastructure sector.
Before Altamar, during the previous eight years and based in Chile, he had been general manager for Latin America at ENDESA, S.A. and CEO of Enersis, S.A., leading the group in five countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru), with 12,000 employees, 16,000 MW of power, seven distribution companies and 14 million clients. During his tenure in Chile, the company’s EBITDA doubled from US$2,300m to US$4,500m.
In 2013, he successfully executed the largest capital raising of an electric company in Latin America (US$6,000m) and, in 2014, the purchase of a 50% stake in Gas de Atacama, a 22% stake in Egedel and the acquisition of Coelce, implying an additional 20% raise in its existing stake.
Before his time in Chile, he held the positions of deputy general director of strategy at ENDESA, co-ordinating the investment banking activities during Endesa’s public take-over. Previously, he was general manager of ENDESA Net Factory.
He was named ‘international CEO of the year’ in 2013 by the Latin Trade Group.
He holds a degree in mining engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, with a major in energy and fuels.
